Bringing Warmth and Character with Reclaimed Wood

There’s nothing like the authentic patina and rich hues of reclaimed wood to warm up a room. Even a simple panel or shelf can bring a unique, natural element to a room – whether the room is modern or traditional, it comes into play, adding character and warmth. A table is an easy way to add notes from wood, but why not think horizontally and use a board as a headboard or driftwood to frame a mirror? If you want to create a minimalist atmosphere, here are 10 ideas to get you started.

      1. Frame it white. This minimalist door, completely surrounded by white, looks very eye-catching. Finding an old-fashioned wooden design at a scrapyard, but be sure to hire a professional to hang all the doors – it’s a very tricky job.

      2. Use white oiled wood for Scandinavian charm. Using white oiled wood is a great way to enjoy the grain and texture of reclaimed wood, but with a paler overall appearance. Thanks to the use of wood, this Scandinavian-style kitchen looks fresh, warm and inviting, adding a lot of character.

      3. Create your own fixtures. A wooden beam hangs from the ceiling and is filled with light bulbs, forming a striking chandelier. It’s also a great way to incorporate the bare light bulb hot trend – why not try this look with colored wires?

      4. Build a console full of personality. These scaffolding planks are joined together and mounted on short legs, creating a surface for displaying trinkets and treasures. The details and wear of galvanized steel tell their history and add character to this simple space.

      5. Call the classics. A much-loved farmhouse table is the easiest way to add a woody touch to a room. This piece brings warmth to a cool white kitchen and can be used as a surface for cooking preparation or informal dining.

      6. Prepare a headboard for your bed. These reclaimed wood headboards fit perfectly with the natural look of the room. Make sure that any planks you use are carefully sanded to avoid chipping – smooth wood will still add a lot of color and character.

      7. Consider cold cladding. This bathroom is located in a former stable, and the original walls have been demolished and renovated to create a stunning feature. Look for panels in the scrapyard – even a small portion will contrast with sleek, modern bathroom fittings.

      8. Take a smooth route. Reclaimed wood doesn’t have to be coarse. This table has the nicks and scratches left over the years, but it has been sanded and waxed to give it a smooth and silky surface. The transparent chairs around it are a clever design that makes the table a star.

      9. Don’t neglect painted works. Lacquered reclaimed wood can also add charm – just choose pieces with a bit of history. These panels serve as beautiful headboards, with intricate carved patterns and distressed finishes that make them a perfect match for the rest of the painted wood in the space.

      10. Go outdoors. Dining al fresco is a real treat during the warmer months. A table made of recycled wood blends in with the natural environment and is sturdy enough to sit all year round.
